Stephanie Ann Nunez's Obituary
Stephanie Ann (Nash) Nunez, age 56, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after living with metastatic breast cancer since 2007. Born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, she was the daughter of a University of New Mexico history professor and a librarian. She graduated from Claremont McKenna College in 1990 with a BA in Philosophy, Public Affairs and Accounting. She worked as an accountant for many years, primarily running her own accounting business from home so she could spend time raising her children. Both children were competitive athletes, and one of the greatest joys in Stephanie’s life was attending their sporting events and helping develop them into college athletes. An avid figure skater since the age of 7, Stephanie continued skating into adulthood, performing in shows, exhibitions and competitions. She especially enjoyed performing with The Divas, an ensemble skating group comprised of wonderful friends. She was a United States Figure Skating Gold Medalist and National Showcase competitor, and was nominated twice by her peers as a United States Figure Skating Get Up Champion, in recognition of her perseverance in skating during her cancer treatments. Preceded in death by her parents, Gerald D. and Marie L. Nash, Stephanie is survived by her husband of 30 years, Carlo, her children, Emily and Anthony, and her dog, Rocky.
