Dix was the son of Sprigg and Laura Davis, who raised him in South Gate California along with his older sister Connie, younger brother Gary and younger sister Mary Dawn, all of whom predeceased him. He was active in music, drama, and athletics at South Gate High School, lettering in track. His college career was serendipitous starting with East Los Angeles JC, UC Santa Barbara, UCDavis, and a Master’s Degree from Humboldt State in 1966. Dix married Lynn Randall on August 17, 1957 in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while Dix was serving in the army at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. He was a short timer as the Korean War was over and they didn’t need all these ROTC 2nd Lieutenants. After completing his bachelor’s degree and completing his military service he taught high school. His first three years he spent at Mt. Whitney High in Visalia where he taught Agricultural Education, but he ended up spending the remaining 32 years teaching mostly Biology at Poway High School. Dix and Lynn settled in Escondido, California and have lived in their current home for 62 years. Dix is survived by his wife Lynn Davis and his seven children who are: Mitchell Allen Davis (Michelle) of North Carolina born in Exeter CA; Michael Lee Davis (Vauna) of Springville, UT also born in Exeter; the other children born in Escondido are Lora Lynn Davis (Jeffrey Davis) of Mesa AZ; Suzanne Eileen Hjorth (Todd Hjorth) of Spanish Fork UT; Kristen Lavern Steele (Cory Steele) of Aurora CO; Randall Sprigg Davis (Rachel) of Santa Clarita CA; and Gregory Ryan Davis (Vanessa) of Rancho Bernardo CA. Dix and Lynn have 32 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. Three of their grandchildren are currently serving missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dix and Lynn also had a foster son, a young Navajo boy named Perry Robbins (Sally) whose children are Reggie, Melissa, Ashley, and Beau, plus Melissa’s daughter Dana who consider Dix their grandfather. Perry predeceased Dix with covid. Dix was a man of great character with a strong sense of humor. He is greatly loved by his wife and extended family, plus many of his students from Poway High School. His services will be held Friday February 27 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 2255 Felicita Rd. In Escondido. Viewing will be at 9:00 AM and the funeral at 10:00.
