Severiano Favela Chaidez's Obituary
Severiano Favela Chaidez passed away unexpectedly July 1, 2026, at the age of ninety-three in Escondido, California leaving behind a life filled with kindness, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family.
Severiano was born on May 10, 1933, in Arroyo Chico, Tepehuanes, Durango, Mexico. He was the fifth child of Cleofas Favela and Eustaquia Chaidez. He grew up in Mexico and immigrated to the USA in the late 1960’s and lived in Chicago, Tijuana and then moved to Escondido, CA where he raised and grew his family and community. Severiano was the last surviving sibling from a family of ten and he has left an impactful legacy that stretches across all the Favela-Chaidez family.
Severiano was a devoted husband, with great adoration for his wife Catarina, for over seventy-two years. He modeled daily the profound tenderness and affection of a true lifelong love for her. He was a devoted father to Leo (Cecilia), Marcelino (Alicia), Margarito (Silvia), Andres (Victoria), Lupe (Jesus), David (Carmen), and Rosa (Joaquin). He was a proud and loving grandfather to nineteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. He loved and served as a father figure to many others throughout his life. Severiano also cared deeply for his two home caregivers, Margarita Garcia de Villar & Alfonsa Ortiz. They provided him with
compassionate care and love, which he reciprocated, making them feel like family.
Severiano immigrated to the US to provide for his young family and to create opportunities for a better life. He succeeded in doing this by putting emphasis on education. He was extremely proud of all of his children’s achievements in higher education, but most of all, he established a solid foundation for his family’s future generations to continue to succeed and to thrive.
He instilled his heritage and culture in his children by taking his family back to Mexico throughout many summers. He packed up to thirteen kids and adults for an arduous 3-day trip to Mexico and back. Together, they experienced danger and wonderful adventures that, to this day, are still being shared with the younger generation Severiano worked as a construction worker with expertise in cement work from the time he lived in Mexico until he retired in his sixties as a member of the Local 89 Laborers Union.
While driving around the region, he often pointed out the hundreds of houses that he helped build, which included the first house built in the community of Mira Mesa, California. Severiano had the gift of a “green thumb” and leaves behind an immaculate garden full of fruit trees, beautiful flowers, and natural herbs. His family will continue to enjoy “the fruits of his labor” for many years to come.
For over forty-five years, he was well known and valued in the Catholic Church of the
Resurrection community, where he was a mentor and shared his values and his profound faith in God, Jesus, and the Virgin Mary.
Severiano will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by many. For those of us who
knew him here on earth, we know he is still here guiding, loving, and inspiring us from
heaven. We all wait and look forward to the day when we reunite with him in heaven.
May He Rest in Peace!
