I’ve heard it said that our first friends are our cousins. In that case Roger was one of my first friends. Our parents were very close, getting together at each other’s home every Saturday night. While I’m not sure what our parents did, my sister and I and Roger and Charles would head to the basement to play. We were creative in the things we did. The Marshalls had a bowling set and we would bowl in their basement. We played music on a record player, played our own instruments, played with our toys and pretended many things. We made trains with chairs, taking tickets from each other or pretended we were in a circus. One of the most vivid memories I have of playing with Roger is when we wrote plays together, then practiced them before putting on the show for our parents.
Even after we were all married with families of our own i would hear how Roger was doing out in California from his mom, my beloved Aunt Millie. Time and distance can not erase those precious memories of a childhood spent with one of my closest cousins. He will be missed!
