Dear family, my memories of tante Sjaan go back to when I was born, I guess. What I admired most about her is the practicality with which she and ome Jan loved their huge family, but still managed to spare quite a lot of that love for me (and us) back in The Netherlands somehow. She (and oma Goudswaard) iued to write letters that I have kept, and the prayer ornaments she gifted me are still beside my bed. Even though I am a “once-removed” relative, I always felt very connected to my uncle and aunt, but also my cousins and tale-end cousins. The first time I visited the US with my grandmother, I realized how Dutch my fanily actually remained which was reflected in their garden and home. I hope the connection will remain despite an entire generation to have disappeared with her passing. I will cherish my fond memories always, Christine
