Gary Owen Lockard's Obituary
Gary Owen Lockard passed away on Thursday evening, November 02, 2023 at the
Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Marcos, CA. He was 78.
Gary was born in San Diego on December 02, 1944, the son of Frank and Evalyn
Lockard. He was a mechanic, welder and truck driver. Gary was a lifetime member of the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, Inc., the Early Gas Engine & Tractor Assn., Inc. Branch 22, many car clubs including the County Cruisers, the Axle Draggers, the T-bucket Club and Christian Rod & Custom who support the military and fundraising events and a lifetime member of the Escondido Amateur Radio Society. He was a man who had the ability to make or fix anything by sketching, designing and fabricating it. He enjoyed building and restoring cars, he was such a great welder that NASA asked him to help them on a project, he built a small vacation cabin to put on his property in Ranchita, CA, he designed and made leather items, he was a HAM radio operator and loved spending time with his friends. His hobbies included: driving his sand buggy, motorcycling, boating, water skiing, fishing, camping, attending car shows, making leather items, and HAM radio.
Gary is survived by his wife of 58 years Lynda of Palomar Mountain, CA; daughter Shanon of Murrieta; sister Carolyn Knowles and brother-in-law Rupert of Ferndale, CA; and brother-in-law Larry Butler and his wife Phyllis of Wimauma, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin (Frank) and Evalyn Lockard.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 from 10:00a.m.-1:30p.m. with a prayer service at noon at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary 225 South Broadway, Escondido, CA 92025. A graveside service will be at 2:00p.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road, Escondido, CA 92027.
In honor of Gary, we ask that you dress casually (car club t-shirts or western attire are encouraged).
