Esperanza Salazar McGuigan's Obituary
Esperanza Salazar McGuigan passed away peacefully on January 20, 2024. She lived a long and full life and will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew her.
Esperanza was born in Northern California and lived there for over 40 years. In 1979 she moved to Escondido, California along with her parents, now with the Lord and late husband, James McGuigan to pursue new adventures in life.
She was a first generation Mexican-American, and learned English as a second language. She faced several challenges in her early years of life, which inspired her to pursue a college education and to become a teacher.
In the early 70's, Esperanza was a passionate, spirited "Trailblazer" of Bilingual Education. She was a Bilingual Educator for 33 years, taught K thru College and did her absolute best to make a profound, positive impact on many young lives.
Esperanza was an extremely loving, kind, and generous daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter – Lorena Rotner, son-in-law – Peter Rotner, Sr., grandsons – Peter Rotner, Jr, John Rotner, Mathew Rotner, granddaughter-in-laws – Mattilyn Rotner, Ellara Rotner, and three great-grandchildren – Kadynce Joy Rotner, Karsyn Hope Rotner, and Julian Mark Rotner.
Flowers may be sent to Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 S. Broadway Escondido, CA 92025. Instead of sending flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetic Association in memory of Esperanza Salazar McGuigan.
Viewing will be at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary on Thursday, February 8, from 4-8pm. On Friday, February 9, at 11:30 a.m. a funeral mass will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church, 1445 Conway Dr., Escondido, CA 92027. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery to follow. After 2 p.m., a Celebration of Life for Esperanza will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 515 W. Valley Parkway, Escondido, CA 92025,
