Growing up with a strong-willed Irish Mother, helped me form the perspective, that women are leaders. They can achieve any goal, which they set their mind to. My Mom, "Dorothy Ann Villacres" was an outstanding example of a strong-minded modern woman. She worked part-time at a hospital in Southern California, while being devoted to her husband, and raising her three children. My Mother was a devout Irish Catholic, who attended Mass every week. She even volunteered at St. Michael's Catholic Church, after retiring from her Hospital job.
My Mother put the needs of her family first. There were many times, when her work would ask, if she would like to work an extra shift, but she would decline, instead choosing to spend her free time with her family. My Mother was the backbone of the Villacres family. I recall often helping my Mom in the kitchen, as she would cook dinner. Thanks to my Mom, I enjoy cooking homemade meals for my husband, in Oregon.
Mom was such an honest person, often letting people around her, know exactly how she feels. I appreciate that trait, as I was certain when talking to my Mom, she was truthful, in her word. My Mother could also, "stretch the dollar". She demonstrated many ways to save money, which has benefitted my own spending habits today.
I am grateful that I had a strong-willed Irish Mother, who raised me to be an independent woman. Even though my Mother is no longer on this earth, she will always be in my thoughts, and part of my spirit.
