I just learned of Van's passing today. I am so sorry for your loss. Van and I ran around with same group of friends from freshman year until graduation. He gave me one of his 1st place trophies after he won a BMX race in El Centro when we were in the 9th grade. We lost touch after graduation but always thought of him and hoped he was doing well. Prayers for your family.
We just found out about Van’s passing and we are shocked and saddened. I’m a GC in town and started working with Van close to 15 years ago. We trusted him without fail and he never failed to deliver professionally. Personally? We thought the world of him. He and I always found time for a laugh and our business conversations always took a turn to family, life and whatever else. We spent more than a few hours venting about this or that. He was a solid , respectable and trustworthy man and we were made better by knowing him. He will be missed and definitely not forgotten. Godspeed buddy..
I remember Van as being the one to always set the standards for which we strived as kids growing up...whether it be at the BMX track or on the sports fields at McCabe, he excelled at everything he did and we idolized his abilities. I have fond memories of Robert Hernandez and I watching him table-top at the vacant lot at the end of Sunset Dr...none of us had the courage to try the things Van seemed to achieve with confidence and ease. Sorry, Van has passed. He looks the same as he did as a young boy, a smile on his face and mischief in his eyes, we always had a good time, when we visited. Love to the family. Kathy Faye Butler
