Charlie Wetzel's Obituary
Charlie Wetzel passed away suddenly on December 3, 2023, at the age of 58. He was born in San Jose, California to parents Raymond John Wetzel and Patricia Ann Wetzel. He is survived by his wife, Julie, of 33 years; sons, Robert and Jonathan; daughters-in-law, Therese and Summer; grandsons, George and Peter; brothers, Tom (Sarah) and Mike; and several nieces and nephews. Charlie is preceded in passing by his father, Raymond; his mother, Patricia, and his brother, Robert.
Charlie was dearly loved by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, and friend. He served in law enforcement as an officer with the Pacifica Police Department for 11 years and the San Diego Police Department for 16 years until he retired.
In his spare time, Charlie loved shooting pool and smoking cigars with family and friends. He loved riding his Harley, taking road trips, fishing, grilling, making beer, attending concerts, and playing fantasy football. Some of Charlie’s fondest memories were coaching Robert in Little League and watching Jonathan compete in taekwondo. He cherished the time he spent with his grandsons and had a special love for each of them.
Charlie will be most remembered for his love for his family, God, and church. After his initiation into the Catholic Church in March of 2005 his life was changed. He was a member of the Church of the Resurrection for the last 18 years where he served the Church in countless ways, a few of which were helping with the food bank, Knights of Columbus, serving at Mass, and helping with various church events. His life was marked by His love of the Lord and virtue. He brought Christ to others through his tender hugs, infectious smile, and contagious laugh. He is remembered for his humble heart, selflessness, and generosity. He was someone you could count on for anything you needed done.
A rosary service will take place at Resurrection of the Church in Escondido, California on December 15th, 2023 at 10 :30am, followed by a Mass at 11:00 am. A reception will be held after Mass at the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the food bank. Please make checks payable to Knights of Columbus 9897. Checks may be mailed to:
