Charles William Canedy's Obituary
The family of Charles William Canedy announces his passing on 5/19/2022. Family was by his side when we lost a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Born to Laverne and Florence Canedy in Dundas, MN 1/18/1936 he was the youngest of 8 children. The family moved to Westminster, CA where he attended Huntington Beach High, graduated and served proudly in the US Army during the Korean War.
After returning he began dating and later married Dorothy Frederick in 1959. They raised a family of 3 children in Fountain Valley, CA; Valley Center, CA and Tehran, Iran.
He was a proud man and had accomplished much. He was a licensed architect by trade and was able to share some of the world’s great architecture with his family while living and working in the Middle East and Guam and traveling throughout Europe and the Pacific Islands. During his time in Guam, he took up scuba diving which was a favorite past time.
After retirement he and Dorothy moved to Glide, OR to a home on the banks of the North Umpqua River. He spent many hours and miles exploring the local hiking trails, rivers, lakes and waterfalls with his best dog friend Jolene. This brought him great happiness and he continued to share his love for the outdoors with family and friends.
Returning to Valley Center he continued to enjoy his hobbies of maintaining his saltwater aquarium, feeding the birds, fishing local lakes and always offering a helping hand on projects in family gardens and homes. He enjoyed keeping busy.
He was honored with a 60-year membership pin at Consuelo Masonic Lodge in June 2021. Another of his proud achievements.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Canedy, daughter Michele and Dan (Hutchings), son Ryan and Lisa and daughter Rhonda and Keith (Steiger); 3 grandchildren Jessica, Desirae and Dakota; and one great grandson Ollivander.
He has left a lifetime of laughs, pride and unforgettable memories. He is deeply missed but we are so grateful for the man he was and how he share his kindness and generosity and helped us to become the family that we are.
A Masonic Funeral Service will be held Saturday- June 11, 2022 at 1pm at the Consuelo Masonic Lodge in Escondido followed by a celebration of life reception. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in his memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children. In Memory of Charles W. Canedy:
