William Arthur Shook's Obituary
We are sad to announce the passing of William (Art) Shook of Escondido, CA. He died at the age of 93 on September 26, 2023. He was born March 3, 1930, in Tucson, Arizona to Lincoln and Pearl Shook.
Art was the most loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Caroline Shook; his daughter, Christine Savage; his grandchildren, Eric and Amanda Savage; and his great-granddaughter, Addison Savage. He was preceded in death by his son, Warren Shook.
In 1951 Art was drafted into the Army and served his country in the Korean War. Upon returning, he met and married his wife, Caroline Nielsen of Ramona, CA. A man of incredible work ethic, Art had various jobs, but his true passion was as a firefighter for Camp Pendleton. He served them for over 25 years, working tirelessly to support his family.
The ultimate family man, Art was so proud of his two children and worked very hard to instill the best morals in his children and grandchildren. He loved taking his grandchildren fishing and even taught them both how to drive and shoot. His smile was always the biggest around his great-granddaughter. His strong sense of family even carried over to making great friends with his neighbors.
Art was a truly wonderful man whose impact will forever be felt by his family that loves him dearly. He was a selfless man in every sense of the word and his passing leaves an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained in everyone he knew.
A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, October 17 at Grace Lutheran Church, 643 W. 13th Ave, Escondido. A viewing will start at 10:30am followed by the service at 11am. A graveside interment will follow at 1pm at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Rd, Escondido. Donations can be made to the Tunnel for Towers Foundation.
