Van Eugene Haynie's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Van Eugene Haynie on November 20, 2022.
Van was born on July 2, 1956, in Logan, UT to Van Lloyd Haynie and Sarah Lulu Lewis. He attended schools in the Cupertino, CA area and Bountiful, UT area later graduating from Bountiful High School in 1974. After high school Van served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints in Dusseldorf, Germany from 1975 until 1977. He married in 1978 to Heidi Harbertson in the Salt Lake Temple, in Salt Lake City, UT. He then attended the University of Utah and graduated in 1981 with a degree in Accounting and German. Furthering his education, he graduated from Brigham Young University J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1984. He started his career as an attorney in San Jose, CA and soon joined the Ross, Dixon and Bell firm in the San Diego area. After many years of group firm work, Van branched out with his brother to start their own law firm, Haynie Law Group. Van spent more than 35 years practicing law and was an integral part of the San Diego law community. He was a respected attorney and a master of his craft. When you were in trouble, you called Van.
Van lived in the greater San Diego area for most of his adult life and was a valued member of the community. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints as well. By far Van’s greatest love in life was his family. He was a dedicated father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending all his free time with his grandchildren and took a great interest in their lives. Outside of spending time with his family, Van could be found reading about history, space exploration and new developments with anything science related. He was an encyclopedia of information and had a knack for retelling stories and information in a very entertaining way.
Van loved Cruisin’ Grand, a good sushi roll, and visiting Hawaii. He was an exceptional hugger and wouldn’t let you leave without one. Van was a kind and selfless man that quietly helped many people over the years and wanted no recognition. He was a man of integrity who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Van is survived by his wife, Heidi; their children, Spencer (Tyra) Haynie, Jonathan (Rischel) Haynie, Erin (Aaron) Nelson and David Haynie; and his grandchildren, Vanessa, Kezia, Ellie, Ruby, Jake, Gwen, Ross, Key and Ray. Van is also survived by his parents, Van Lloyd Haynie and Sarah Lulu Lewis; and his siblings, Bryan (Dawnelle) Haynie, Allen (Deborah) Haynie, and Michelle (Mitch) Davis.
Private funeral services will be held by the family.
