The old photo of Sue and my son, Rick, from the mid-90’s is probably my favorite, and brings me joy whenever I see it. This was Sue’s happy place—exhausted from cooking and cleaning for a family visit, yet playful and eternally patient with the children in her life. I do think Sue’s calling was to be a mother, and she was like a mother to me during the 20 years I dated and was married to her son, Mark. We shared a deep bond all those years, and I’m so grateful we were able to reconnect and speak from the heart before she passed, including a visit just before COVID, with that little boy all grown up. Sue, I will always love you and treasure what I learned from you, and I know you have been received into Love everlasting.
