Udell Campbell's Obituary
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Udell (Dell) Campbell, on Thursday, January 27th, 2023.
Dell was born in Widtsoe, Utah on May 8, 1933, to George Arzy and Myrle Mangum Campbell. He was very proud of his Widtsoe, Utah heritage and spoke often of his love of Southern Utah.
Dell is survived by his wife Carolyn Campbell and his four sons, Doug (Lisa,) Kevin (Candy), Alan and Glen, as well as three stepdaughters, Terri (Jim), Cheryl, and Holly (Lawrence). He had many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Elgie Campbell.
Dell met and married Evelyn Colleen Ainslie while he was stationed at Otis Air Force base in Massachusetts. Afterward, the married couple relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah, raising four sons (Douglas, Kevin, Alan, and Glen) until Evelyn’s death in the mid 1970’s.
Dell was later married to Carolyn Campbell. They were inseparable sweethearts for 44 years. They loved to travel and visited Hawaii multiple times. On their honeymoon, they took Carolyn’s mother and some of the children with them to Hawaii. They were certified scuba divers and went on many diving trips including the Cayman Islands and Cozumel Mexico.
Dell served in the United States Air Force in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War and worked as a cryptographer. After the military, Dell utilized his typing skill and became a type teacher at the LDS Business College in Salt Lake. Dell was owner of several businesses including Campbell’s Tax Service, and he was part owner of Stabro Laboratories and others throughout the years. He moved to California in the late 1990’s to help open The Golf Fit and worked hard to make it successful.
Dell had a wonderful voice and he loved to sing. He and Carolyn sang Karaoke with their friends at many establishments in North County. They also performed musical programs at assisted living centers for many years. At Christmas time, Dell dressed as Santa Claus and sang Christmas carols which made the elderly happy. Dell had an uncanny resemblance to Hank Williams Jr and was once asked for his autograph. He was a confidant to many, never offering advice unless asked. He gave wise counsel and was always there for you, never asking why.
