Thelma M. Groff's Obituary
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Major Goodwin C. Groff; son, Goodwin C. Groff Jr.; grandson, Eric Groff; and sisters, Nancy Swagger and Beth Coleman. She is survived by her brother, Joe; sisters, Joyce, Rhoda, and Ruth; daughter, Roseanne Biggs; son, Jack Groff; grandchildren, Matthew Groff, Valerie Federico, Heather Waddell, Tiffany Buck, Angela Hoffman, Julie Barlow, Shane Young, Michael Simpson, and Shelley Simpson; eleven great-grandchildren; and too many nieces and nephews to count. She was one of seven children born to Theodora and Joseph S. Fox. The family ended up settling in Pt. Loma, where she graduated from Pt. Loma High. Thelma always loved singing. She sang in her father's church choir and performed in productions while attending San Diego State. During WWII, she would sing for the troops at the USO. After WWII, Thelma married Major Woodwin C. Groff, when he returned While being moved around the U.S. for the next fourteen years and having life interrupted by the Korean War, she managed to raise three children. Major Groff died in 1960 and left her to finish raising three children, as a single mother, which she did qu She was a very giving person all her life. She often went without so that she could help others, who she felt had a greater need than her own. This continued after she retired , as she volunteered at many places in San Diego.
