Steve Scherer's Obituary
Herbert Stephen Scherer, affectionately known as Steve to his friends and loved ones, embarked on his final journey on August 26, 2025, in the sunny embrace of San Diego, California, after a valiant battle with interstitial lung disease. Born on November 8, 1951, in the heart of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Steve's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with joy, wisdom, and an unyielding zest for life that touched everyone he met.
Steve's academic journey at Kent State University culminated in a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and Recreation in 1974, setting the stage for a life dedicated to the enrichment of others. His professional path was marked by a distinguished career as a Manufacturer's Sales Representative for Women's Day Wear, where his charm and wit brightened countless interactions. Later, he transitioned into the role of a Financial Advisor, a testament to his brilliant analytical mind and a sincere desire to guide others towards financial security. His professional tenure included prestigious stints at Dean Witter, Morgan Stanley, Smith Barney, and Merrill Lynch.
Beyond his career, Steve was a pillar of the community, generously giving his time and expertise. As an active member of the Kiwanis Club, he championed causes that improved the lives of children and families. His love for wildlife and conservation shone brightly during his volunteer hours at the Safari Park, where he forged connections between nature and the hearts of visitors. His passion for knowledge led him to teach finance at adult night school, empowering many to take control of their financial destinies.
Steve's Christian faith was the compass that guided him through life's storms and celebrations, instilling in him values that he lived out daily with grace and kindness. His interests were as diverse as they were deep; from the precision of a well-played game of chess to the exhilarating rush of skiing down a snowy slope. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, relishing the camaraderie and challenge each game brought. His love for traveling took him on adventures across the globe, while his appreciation for the cultural arts enriched his soul with the beauty of music and theater. A true renaissance man, Steve found equal joy in the quiet moments spent with a good book or immersed in the study of history.
Those who knew Steve will remember a man whose laughter was infectious, whose heart was brimming with love, and whose demeanor was the epitome of friendliness. His legacy is carried on by his devoted wife, Claudia, his loving daughters, Brittaney and Jacquelyn, and the countless lives he illuminated with his presence.
Steve Scherer's story is not one of an ending, but a celebration of a life that exemplified the power of positivity, the strength of character, and the unending potential of the human spirit to bring light into the world.
