Sidney Arthur Emerson Jr.'s Obituary
Sidney Arthur Emerson, Jr., age 82, of McKinney, Texas, passed away September 14, 2016. He was born April 6, 1934 in Akron, Ohio to Sidney Arthur Emerson, Sr. and Ava Violet (Roy) Emerson. On November 17, 1956, Sidney married Selma Ellis in Akron, Ohio.
In 1965 Sid and Selma moved their young family to Escondido, California. Sid bought the Escondido Coin Shop on 111 N. Broadway. Sid was owner, operator, and sole proprietor of Escondido Coin from 1965 to 1989. Sid spent his post-Coin Shop years pursuing his passion and appreciation for collectible Cigar Box Label Art. During the five decades spent building his business and pursuing related hobbies and interests, Sid developed many rich and rewarding lifelong friendships which, along with his family, he cherished above all else. “Papa” Sid Emerson is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Ava Emerson, and siblings Jim Emerson, Teddy Emerson, and Jeannette Provence. He is survived by his wife, Selma Emerson of McKinney, Texas; three children, Linda (Randy) Sampson of McKinney, Texas, Brian (Lee Ann) Emerson of Madison, Georgia, and David Emerson of Coppell, Texas; five grandchildren, Ashley (Tom) Pontarelli of McKinney, Texas, Eric Sampson of Denton, Texas, Mack Emerson of Atlanta, Georgia, Patrick Sidney Emerson of Atlanta, Georgia, and Rachel Emerson of Coppell, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Leo and Logan Pontarelli of McKinney, Texas and a sister, Carol (Harry) Boivin of Akron, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at Unity Way Church, 171 Unity Way, Vista, California 92083, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Graveside service will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road, Escondido, California 92027, at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sidney’s name to Unity Way Church would be appreciated.
