Ruth Marie Buchtel's Obituary
Ruth Marie Buchtel, one of the most loving and kindhearted souls to grace this earth, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at the age of 76. She was born on June 10, 1949, in Jacksonville, Florida, and she spent her life pouring love into everything she touched.
Ruth had a rare and beautiful quality — she was utterly selfless. It was never about what she wanted or needed; it was always about the people around her and how she could make them happy. She never wanted to burden anyone with her troubles, quietly carrying her own while making sure those she loved felt cared for. She was self-sufficient, capable, and deeply gracious in the way she moved through the world.
Her home was warm and welcoming, filled with the aromas of her cooking, the sounds of laughter, and the brightness of her spirit.
Ruth loved to cook, and she did it well — a gift she gave freely and often. She had a deep love of bright colors, flowers, and music. She enjoyed shopping, her favorite television programs, and — to the delight of those who knew her best — a good comedy or a surprisingly gory movie. She had an infectious sense of humor, a quick laugh, and a big, beautiful smile that could brighten any room she walked into.
Ruth was a mother — and it was the role she was most proud of.
She was generous, endlessly supportive, and remarkably free of judgment. She never tried to shape her children into something they weren't; she simply wanted them to be happy, and she poured herself completely into making sure they were. She stood behind their ambitions and offered unconditional love without condition or reservation. To her children, she wasn't just a mother — she was their greatest source of comfort, confidence, and belonging.
Ruth valued family above all else. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and her love for them was the defining force of her life. Her soul was pure love and joy, and her spirit was a constant, steady light for everyone fortunate enough to be in her presence.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Malone, Jennifer Malone, David Malone, and his wife Lalita; her brother, Joseph Santoro, and his wife Deanna; her nephew Joseph Santoro Jr. and his wife Julie, and niece Wendy Santoro; and her grandchildren Robert, Cassandra, Marissa, Melanie, Natalie, and Keana; and great-grandchildren Leilani, Kingston, Kaylon, and Saniyah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Rose Dobson, and her beloved husband, Robert Buchtel.
