Robert Limon Atilano's Obituary
Robert L. Atilano, a lifelong resident of Escondido, passed away peacefully at home, on October 1, 2024, at the age of 95.
He married his high school sweetheart, Eleanor Orosco, a love that endured throughout the decades. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with family, community, and countless memories. Robert's service to his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and California National Guard during the Korean War was a testament to his bravery and dedication, leading to an honorable discharge after two years of service.
Known for his prowess on the baseball field, Robert was a star pitcher for Sunkist in his early days, earning accolades for his multiple no-hitters and complete game shutouts. His love for the game carried him through a lifetime of coaching and inspiring young athletes.
A true musician at heart, Robert was proficient on the drums and other instruments, often playing in a band with his father and siblings or friends. Music flowed through his life, whether on stage or in his own home, and it was a passion he passed down to future generations. His love for jitterbug dancing and impeccable rhythm were legendary among family and friends.
Robert was not just a sportsman and musician but also a deeply committed community leader. For decades, he coached youth sports, guiding both boys and girls in Little League baseball and softball, including his own children and grandchildren. He found joy in sharing his love for the game and in watching the next generation thrive. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with family.
Robert is predeceased by his wife Eleanor and daughter Irene, and survived by three of his four children Roberta, Cecilia, and Carlos, as well as nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom carry on his legacy of love, family, and community service. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace Dad, you will be deeply missed.
