Robert Dean Abrams' Obituary
Robert D. Abrams, 89, of Escondido, CA passed away at home on Monday, October 30th, 2017 after losing his 10.5 year battle with Alzheimer's.
Visitation will be from 11am - 2pm on Sunday, November 12th at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary,
225 S. Broadway, Escondido.
The full military honors burial will be held at 12:30pm on Monday, November 13th at
Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego.
Robert was born January 26th, 1928 in Nora Springs, Iowa to Orval and Viola (Waggoner) Abrams.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Prater on October 19th, 1984.
Robert enlisted in the Navy in June of 1946 where he proudly served until July of 1968. After retiring from the Navy, Robert was an Electronics Instructor at Hawkeye Tech, Waterloo, IA and then a Technical Instructor for Motorola, Schaumburg, IL. Upon his retirement from Motorola in 1991, he and his wife Nancy moved to the San Diego area.
Robert was very active in Veterans' Organizations after he retired from the Navy. He served a term as
Post Commander of AMVETS Post 49 in Cedar Falls, IA and 2 terms as Post Commander of VFW Post 3795 in San Marcos, CA. During his term in 2001-2002, he earned the distinction of All American Post Commander.
In addition to the time he spent serving veterans, Robert enjoyed camping and traveling during his retirement.
Robert is survived by his wife, Nancy Abrams, Escondido; ex-wife Margaret (Bailes) Abrams, Cedar Falls, IA, their children Robert G. Abrams, Mason City, IA; Donna Wyatt, Ozark, MO; Michael D. (Deb) Abrams, Faribault, MN; Gary Abrams, Cedar Falls, IA; and Pamela (George) Davidshofer, Salem, IA;
sister Dolores (LaVerne) McLaughlin, Mason City, IA; brother Dallas (Elaine) Abrams, Menifee, CA,
sisters-in-laws Betty (Dennis) Abrams and Betty (Clifton) Abrams and son-in-law Rick (Patty) Siskow, Dougherty, IA.
12 Grandchildren: Eric (Kristen) Siskow, Clint (Joyce) Siskow, Maggie Abrams, Robert S. Abrams,
Tanya Hankins, Shane Hankins, Amanda Wyatt, Michael R. (Barb) Abrams, Melissa (Jason) Janovsky,
Jennifer Abrams, Christopher Modlin and Jeremy (Jessica) Anderson.
22 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Patricia Siskow, brother Dennis Abrams,
brother Clifton Abrams, brother-in-law LaVerne McLaughlin, nephew Joe McLaughlin and niece Lori Lichty.
A funeral lunch will be served at 2:30pm.
