Raul M. "Blinky/Lulu" Cortez's Obituary
Raul is survived by his wife of 67 years, Annie P. Cortez; daughters, Lydia Salinas (Jose) and Aurora Pina (John); sons, Raul "Jr." Cortez (Pat), Larry Cortez, David Cortez, Romero Aldarez (Becky); His brother Art Cortez (Lupe). His 15 grandchildren, Ralph, Louie, Juian, Marisa, Ana, Ali, Adrian, Michelle, Raulie, Steve, Victoria, John Paul, David Jr., Andrea and Ricky and 21 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Juan and Trinidad Cortez. Sister Aurora, Brothers, Manuel, Sammy and Tino Cortez. He served as a heavy machine gunner in WWII with the 448th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in the European Theatre. He participated in the campaign of Normandy, North France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was a member of the Laborers Local 89 in Escondido. He enjoyed listening and dancing to Mexican music and loved spending time with friends and family.
