Nellie Geraldine Askegreen's Obituary
Nellie Geraldine (Monroe) Askegreen died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 11, 2013. She was 92.
She was an Escondido resident for more than 50 years and spent most of those years living with her husband, Carl, on Askegreen's Akin Acre across from Emmanuel Faith Church. She loved to garden and created a loving home that welcomed family members and friends. She was a self-taught musician, poet and amateur filmmaker, who documented everything from Easter egg hunts to lightening storms. Even though she lost most of her vision over the last decade, she continued to write poems that reflected her love of nature Nellie and Carl were long-time members of the Escon-Do-C square dance club where they made life-long friends. Nellie met every Thursday, for over 30 years, with the Happy Hookers sewing group and volunteered with the Escondido Assistance League. She was born December 3, 1920 in Pensacola, Florida. It was there that she met and married Carl Askegreen on April 30, 1938. During Carl's Army career, they lived in California, Florida, France and Oklahoma. They moved back to So. California after Carl She is survived by three children: Charles Askegreen (Sharon), Beverly Jennings (Charles), and Karen Seda (Russ).
