Melvin Forrest Wooley's Obituary
Melvin Wooley, loving husband of Bonita Wooley, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2016 at his Escondido home, surrounded by his family. He was 91 years old.
Mel was born in Texas to Marvin and Betty (Kirby) Wooley on September 15, 1924. He joined the US Navy during WWII, and proudly served aboard the USS Pasig (AW-3), a water distilling ship in the South Pacific that supplied fresh water to troops and ships preparing for the invasion of Okinawa.
After the war ended, Mel met and married Eva Willis in El Monte, CA. They were married for 47 years, until her death in 1993 from cancer. After a time, Mel became reacquainted with one of Eva's closest friends, Bonita Bennett. They married in 1994, and remained together until Mel's death.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, and by his sisters Bea Lovelace of Grass Valley, CA, and Uvalda Terry of Helotes, TX. He survived by his wife, Bonita Wooley, his children Melvin "Topper" Wooley of Escondido, Jerri Woods of Juneau, AK, Myron Wooley of Valley Center, CA, and Valerie Lindsley of San Diego, and his stepchildren Nancy (Bennett) Werbin of Lake Tahoe, Ronald Bennett of Austin, TX, and Rick Bennett of Lafayette, CO;
nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren survive him as well.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, 225 S. Broadway, Escondido, CA.
