Marva Miller's Obituary
Marva Miller of Rancho Bernardo passed away on June 5 at the age of 96.
She was a resident of Casa De Las Campanas for 14 years and of the Rancho Bernardo area for 35 years.
Marva grew up on a farm in Missouri that produced crops, raised cattle, chickens, and pigs. Lessons learned on how to be self-sufficient and work hard shaped her personality and approach to life.
Her friends here knew her as “the walker”. You may have seen her strolling the hallways or taking a deliberate course around the Casa. The security guards knew her well because she would let them know when an outside or hallway light was out, a door was ajar, or something seemed to be out of place.
She loved to play golf. She had 3 holes in one and volunteered at the Assistance League of North County for more than a decade.
Her love affair with California began in 1947 when she took a DC3 on her own to see what was out here. In the early 50’s, she and her husband Garth took the opportunity to move west with their two young children. Although they left to live in Ohio for a time, California was where they always wanted to be and where she will be laid to rest on Friday, August 20th at 11 a.m. in the memorial garden at the Rancho Bernardo Presbyterian Community Church.
She is survived by her son, Garth Gregory Miller, two grandchildren – Adam Miller and Abigail Miller Cook, and four great grandchildren – Weston and Noelle Miller, Eleanor and Evelyn Cook.
In lieu of flowers a memorial gift would be welcomed at The Assistance League of Inland North County, The Alzheimer’s Association, or Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church.
