Marjorie Emma Krone's Obituary
Marjorie Krone was born June 16, 1921, in McMinn County, Tennessee,
She died at the age of 101 years and 7 months on January 16, 2023, in Escondido, California.
Marjorie was the daughter of Elsie Ann Taylor and George Rodgers of McMinn County, TN. Marjorie graduated from McMinn County High School in 1939 and from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1941. She received a BS degree from University of Tennessee in 1943. After college, in support of the war effort, Marjorie worked for Roman Haus in Knoxville, TN. In 1945 Marjorie married career Air Force Officer Orval (Cruiser) Krone. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Orval, by her Mother Elsie Taylor, her father George Rodgers, her grandparents, Joseph R. Taylor and Emma Lee Ferguson Taylor, by her aunts, Martha Taylor, and Carrie Guffey, her uncles Tom Taylor, and Ernest Guffey. Marjorie is survived by her three children: Terence Orval Krone (Carol) of Denver, Colorado, Edwin Andrew Krone (Virginia) of San Clemente, California and Tamara Kay Krone (Michael Driscoll) of Watsonville, California. Marjorie is also survived by three grandchildren: Ryan Driscoll (Danielle), Devin Driscoll, and Taylor Krone, and by one great grandchild, William Frank Driscoll. Marjorie and Orval began married life in St. Louis, Missouri. Orval reenlisted in the Air Force, and they were subsequently stationed at Air Force bases in Roswell, New Mexico, Austin, Texas, Dayton, Ohio and finally at Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert, California.
Included in her many accomplishments as a wife and mother, Marjorie was a substitute teacher in the Edwards AFB school system, and served as president of the Officer’s Wives Club at Edwards
AFB. She was a talented seamstress and was very active in the lives of her children and her husband.
After Cruiser’s retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to Cupertino, California in 1967, and she and Cruiser settled in Escondido, CA, in 1978. Marjorie began playing golf in Cupertino and continued playing at the Escondido Country Club. She was an active member of the Women’s nine-hole golf group, The Nuevettes. She played bridge with neighbors and friends. Marjorie and Cruiser enjoyed traveling to many places in the world. Marjorie continued to travel well into her late 80s.Marjorie lived a full and active life. She was loved, she was a friend to many. She had a wonderful laugh, and a generous caring spirit. She died peacefully at Meadowbrook Village in Escondido. Marjorie’s family wishes to acknowledge.
and thank all of Marjorie's wonderful caretakers for ensuring her last years were filled with kindness and loving care, including Servants Heart, whose staff assisted Marjorie in her home in her later years; Kevin Calhoun and the wonderful staff at the Eagle's Nest Board and Care facility; and Meadowbrook Village Skilled Nursing for their kind care of Marjorie.
She is to be interred with Cruiser at Riverside National Cemetary in Riverside, CA
