Marina Sandzimier's Obituary
Marina Sandzimier, beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Nana), sister, aunt, friend, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, surrounded by her family April 16, 2024. Born Estela Marina Cabezas in Nicaragua 1938, came to the United States and met the love of her life Joseph Sandzimier and married on September 23, 1961. While her long life spanned from Nicaragua to Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, California, she and Joe established predominant roots and branches in the community of Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, California. Marina was a petite firecracker full of energy and love. Her love of family, friends, and community has left indelible marks on everything and everyone she has touched, ma king the world a better place. While there is grief that she has passed away, it is comforting to know she also passed "through" this world in a generous way, living a long full life, a model of love, faith, support, and kindness. We are blessed with an abundance of fond memories of her, a gift from God, shared with many, and now returned to God. Marina was a devout Catholic and active member of the San Rafael Catholic Church community. Those who knew Marina appreciated her many talents (e.g. ukelele, piano, guitar, singing, athletics, dancing, arts/crafts, knitting, cooking, homemaking/gardening, salesmanship), competitive spirit, wit, infectious smile and laughter, and unselfish approach to others.
Marina is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years Joseph Sandzimier, her children Mark Sandzimier, Rick (Kim) Sandzimier, Karin (David) Sosa, and Jennifer Calabrase, nine grandchildren Ryan (Brittany) Sandzimier, Carter Sandzimier, Tatum Sandzimier, Ariana Sosa, Garrett Sandzimier, Anika Sosa, Ashlynn Calabrase, Sean Sandzimier and Collin Sandzimier, her siblings Ronald (Carol) Cabezas, Amanda Snyder, and Freddy (Ada) Cabezas. She is preceded in death by her parents Orontes and Amanda Cabezas and brothers Cesar Cabezas and Lionel Cabezas.
A funeral mass will be held May 30, 2024, 11 :00 am, at San Rafael Catholic Church, 17252 Bernardo Center Dr., San Diego, California, with reception to follow in the parish hall. Marina will be laid to rest at a private inurnment on May 31, 2024, at Miramar National Cemetery.
