OBITUARY
Marilyn Denise Fusch Bankhead
June 26, 1945 – November 24, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Denise Fusch Bankhead on November 24, 2024. Born on June 26, 1945, in San Diego, California, Marilyn was a proud native of the city she loved and called home. She lived most of her life in Escondido, California, where she built a life filled with love, devotion, and purpose, touching the lives of everyone who knew her.
Marilyn attended San Diego State University, where she cultivated a lifelong passion for learning and embraced her love of teaching. She also shared her enthusiasm for teamwork and performance as a dedicated drill team coach, inspiring young women to work together with discipline and grace.
A lifelong educator, Marilyn found her calling as a child development teacher and cherished her time running the preschool at San Marcos High School. Her work inspired countless young minds and hearts, leaving an indelible mark on her community.
Marilyn’s love for her hometown extended to its sports teams. She was an avid fan of the San Diego State Aztecs, the San Diego Chargers, and the San Diego Padres, always cheering on her teams with pride and enthusiasm.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was an active member of North County Church of Christ, where she formed many meaningful and lasting friendships.
Marilyn also had a passion for beauty and collected jewels and precious stones. She found wonder in the uniqueness of each stone, marveling at the intricate beauty of God’s creation.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom, whom she lost to cancer in 1998. Despite this heartbreaking loss, she continued to lead a life full of grace and strength, dedicating herself to her family and her faith. Above all, she cherished her role as a grandmother to her three grandchildren: Jackson, Thomas and Mason. They were her absolute purpose in life, and she was their loving, wonderful grandmother who nurtured them with warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support.
Marilyn’s kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 6, at 11:30 a.m. at Canyon View Church of Christ, 4292 Balboa Ave, San Diego, CA 92117.
