Margaret Isabel Nugent's Obituary
Margaret I Nugent (ne’e Garrett) widow of John B. Nugent, Jr, and a 61year resident of Valley Center died August 7, 2022 at home. She was 94 years old.
Mrs. Nugent was born February 1, 1928 in Anaheim, California. Her husband, John preceded her in death on August 7, 2016. They were married greater than 67 years. Margaret leaves three daughters; Carol Nugent, Laurene Collings (David) and Rosemary Nugent. She also had four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Margaret Nugent was a devoted mother supporting her daughters in their lives while loving her expanding extended family.
She was a lifetime dedicated member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and served her church in various positions throughout her years. She also worked as a volunteer for many years at the Valley Center Library including assisting in the library’s bookstore frequently leading silent auctions to make supplemental income for the library. Another volunteer position Margaret enjoyed was tending some of the gardens at the San Diego Safari Park. Even when she could no longer garden, she would walk the park frequently in the early mornings.
Margaret Nugent lived in the home she and her husband built until her death. She loved the family ranch assisting her husband in the development of avocado groves, harvesting honey and canning and freezing foods. Until recent years, she efficiently maintained the business of the ranch.
A funeral was held on August 16th at the Trinity Episcopal Church. A graveside ceremony followed at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido where she was buried next to her husband. A wake will be held after arrangements have been formalized.
Donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or The North County Interfaith Council. Both are in Escondido, California. Margaret would have preferred no flowers so the daughters have suggested living plants that can be planted at the ranch.
