Leland "Pat" McNally's Obituary
Leland “Pat” McNally went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday August 12, 2025 at 12:57pm. He fought a short, but hard battle with lung cancer the past 10 months. We are blessed to know he was reunited with his precious wife Kathy after over 8 long years apart. Pat was also preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Shannon and Tyson Chapman and their children Delaney (married to Ronan May), Jake, and Brody, son Patrick and daughter in law Maggie McNally and their children Lauren and Ryan, half brother Wayne McQuaid and wife Peg, brother Charles and wife Arlene and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
Pat was born in Wewoka, OK in 1943 and was raised in Midwest City, OK. His parents, Charles and Alleyene, tried to keep him from trouble but he was having too much fun most of the time. He was raised with his older brother Charles Jr. and younger sister Pam and graduated from Midwest City High School. He worked as a fi refi ghter and then joined the Marine Corps where he went on to serve 2 tours in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he returned to Midwest City and began his career in insurance sales.
In January 1969 he met the love of his life Kathy and married her July 18th of that same year. They moved back to his favorite place in the world…San Diego, California. Pat worked his way up at Standard Life and Accident Insurance as a Senior Marketing Director. He never really retired, still writing life insurance policies up until a few years ago.
Pat was involved in church ministry when he wasn’t on the road selling life insurance or playing golf. He served at First Southern San Diego and started a bus ministry there and became a deacon. The family moved to North County (Rancho Bernardo and then Escondido) and Pat continued to serve as deacon and then elder at Bethel Baptist Church, First Baptist Mira Mesa and Emmanuel Faith. He also served on the California Baptist Foundation, helping establish fi nancial security for churches all throughout the state. He loved helping plant new churches to reach the lost for Jesus!
He was optimistic and encouraging to all he befriended and was willing to help at a moment’s notice. He was generous with his time and the blessings that God had given him in life. His display of unwavering faith helped many through their individual struggles, including his own. The greatest gift he gave his children was his unending belief in the goodness of God, he never stopped hoping for the best in all things.
Psalm 23:6 “ Surely goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
A Memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 11:00 am at Bethel Baptist Church at 855 Brotherton Rd. Escondido, CA.
