Karel de Jong's Obituary
Karel de Jong, 79, a long-time San Marcos resident passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 in Tulare, California while visiting his family to attend the World Ag Expo. Karel was born on January 30, 1934 in Holland where he worked on his family’s 30-cow dairy farm and also raised his own small herd of goats. In 1949, when Karel was 15, the de Jong family moved to the United States where they worked on an uncle’s dai He married Shirley de Haan in 1966 and they were blessed with 46 years of marriage, three children, and twelve grandchildren. Karel had a creative mind and loved to invent things. He also loved to talk and enjoyed telling stories about his past, especial He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter Brenda (John) Van Otterloo and grandchildren Leah, Anna, Naomi, John, and Allison; daughter Marianne (George) Wilgenburg and grandchildren Hannah, Tyra, Will, and Rebekah; son Eric John (Elizabeth) de Jong and In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either Hanford Christian School in Hanford, CA, www.hanfordchristian.org or to Calvin Christian School in Escondido, www.calvinchristianescondido.org.
