Joseph Francis Illig's Obituary
Joseph “Joe“ Illig, 87, of Valley Center, California, passed away on May 29th, 2011 after battling a long series of illnesses. His wife and six of his children and their spouses were at his side as passed away while the other three children, who live in the Seattle area, held a vigil. He is survived by his wife, Cecile, his brother, Edward, nine children, 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Illig’s life was the very definition of a full life. Joseph Frances Illig was born November 9, 1923 in Los Angeles, California. He was the eldest of four boys and attended Los Angeles City College after completing High School. He served his count His many interests and hobbies included sailing, avocado farming, raising pigs, light airplanes, model trains, antique cars and trucks, woodworking, gourmet foods, wine-tasting and especially travelling. A life-long dream came to fruition when he desig The greatest testimonial of Joe’s life was his love and joy. He truly lived a happy, rewarding life, filled with love of God, family and friends.
He had myriad friends because, just like Will Rogers, he never met a person he didn’t like. The feel His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 6th at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Valley Center. The Mass will be presided by Msgr. Roger Lechner of San Diego, and also by Mr. Illig’s nephews, Father Mike McGarry, CSP and Father John McGarr
