John M. Tafejian's Obituary
John M. Tafejian, 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Escondido, CA, on Monday March 11, 2013. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary, to whom he was married for 60 years. He was born to Sumpad and Grace (Doodakian) Tafejian in 1922 in Chicago, Ill.
John grew up in Rodgers Park, Ill., and attended Sullivan High School and North Park College. During World War II, John served as a member of the U.S. Army 353 Corps of Engineers Battalion in the Pacific Theater. One of his cherished memories from the war was a visit from Eleanor Roosevelt, a valued inspiration to him. After the war, John met Ma John was a kind and generous man who always sacrificed for his family and remained loyal to his many friends. His many hobbies included fishing, reading and playing backgammon. John is survived by his sister, Florence (John) Manougian; daughter, Karen Tafejian; sons, Raymond and Timothy Tafejian; sister-in-law, Julie (Gabe) Hachigian; nieces, Barbara Manougian Gamelgard, and Elizabeth Kamajian; nephew, Gary Manougian; cousin Rob Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the First United Methodist Church, 341 S.
