Cdr John F. Whittle MD's Obituary
Cdr. John F. Whittle M.D., a 37-year resident of San Diego, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017 at Palomar Hospital in Escondido, CA. He was 87 years old. The son of the late Grosvenor Whittle and Elsie Kefford Whittle he was born in Frodsham, Cheshire, England on July 22, 1929. John was the middle child of five and at the age of 10, he immigrated to the United States with his family. He grew up in the upstate New York towns of Oxford and Norwich. John received his medical degree from NYU, and served his country in the United States Air Force. He also had a medical practice in North Babylon, NY and Las Vegas Nevada, then moved to San Diego to again serve his country as a medical officer, attaining the rank of Commander in the United States Navy. After retiring from the Navy, John continued his medical career on the medical staff of North County Health Services. He enjoyed his garden and watching the hummingbirds and other birds that frequented his yard, he also enjoyed baking, and traveling the world, especially by sea.
John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Natalie Castro Whittle, beloved sons James Valdez, Frederick Whittle, Jonathan Whittle, and Gregory Whittle, beloved daughter Alyson James and loving grandchildren Dylan James, Keith James, Gregory Whittle, Taylor Whittle, Julia Whittle, Spencer Whittle, Charles Whittle, Elijah Knight, Faith Whittle, Theodore
Whittle, Joseph Whittle, and Dustin Ells. He is further survived by his sister, Elizabeth Everett and many nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his brothers William Whittle, Charles Whittle, Egerton Whittle and grandson Jacob Whittle.
Funeral services for Cdr. John F. Whittle, M.D. will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the Marine Corp Air Station Miramar Chapel, 5702 Bauer Rd, San Diego, CA
92145 (on the Miramar Base) at 11:00 am. Military Honors will be conducted immediately following the Funeral Mass at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Rd.,San Diego, CA at 12:30 pm. Reception follows at the Marine Corp Air Station Miramar Officers Club, 4472 Anderson Ave., San Diego, CA (on base).
