James Robert Gibbs passed away April 23, 2020, from an apparent heart attack in his Burbank, California home. Robert, or Rob as most of his colleagues knew him, was born in Escondido, California. He graduated from Orange Glen High Read Obituary
Together we were the Dolls. Rob was our "Ken" doll. We miss laughing with him every Wednesday with his goofy approach, creative stories, and the big smile on his face every time he talked about you, Mary. Cheers to Rob, our friend and bowling teammate.

Will miss Rob greatly. I only wish that I had more pictures with him but fondly meeting him during the Monster's Inc, story days. I had to pin and repin his Yeti's cave sequence, so got to spend lots of quality time with him. The last project I worked on at Pixar was with Rob on Mater's Tall Tales. So in a sense, my time at Pixar was bookended with Rob.
I’m heartbroken over the loss of Rob. He and I worked together for four years at Pixar on 7 short films - the “CarsToons - Mater's Tall Tales." I was a new producer there, and Rob was the kindest, most patient director you could ever work with. I will always be grateful to him. He created the magic formula for “CarsToons” and was a master of short format story telling. He was an incredible story artist, and so funny - he was master of the ridiculous. He brought the characters, Mater and McQueen, into the funniest of situations and found such delight in doing so. He was amazed by the talent of the crew, and they all loved him. We had lots of work trips together - to Vancouver to work with the Pixar Canada team, and to Florida and LA to record voice talent or visit Imagineering. I’m so sad for all the Rob Gibb-ness delight and silliness the world will miss out on. We need more of Rob right now, not less. He had a heart of gold and is gone way too soon. So very sad about Rob’s passing. We met on the film CoolWorld, my first real job upon moving to LA from NYC. We sat right next to each other for about a year and entertained each other with stories and became friends outside of work as well. I’ll always remember his humor, kind demeanor and drawing skills. He passed many a funny drawing over to me over the course of the production and even drew caricatures of me that I don’t know what I did with!!! Maybe I’ll find them somewhere in the future and a huge smile will pass over my face. I’m glad our paths crossed - he was something special who made a lasting impression on my life. ❤️ Hugs to all who mourn him.
