Irene Swoboda's Obituary
Mrs. Swoboda was preceded in death by her mother and father, James and Josephine (Schaaf) Rupe, sisters, Isabell Peugh, Faye Hoople, her husband of 26 years, Lind Swoboda and Marcie Phillips, natural mother of her adopted son, Joe Swoboda of Escondido.
She leaves behind a wealth of family and friends: her son Joe and daughter-in-law Cathie (Crow) Swoboda and grand-daughter Lindsay; nephews and their spouses, Tony and Janice Hoople, John and Muffy Peugh, Jimmy Peugh, Jake Reynolds, Niece, Joyce Plog; nine grand-nieces and nephews and thirteen great-grand nieces and nephews; her poker club players, some of ten to twenty years; and her numerous bowling buddies of up to forty five years. She graduated from Oceanside High at age 16. She attended San Diego State for one year. Her family came to Encinitas in 1913. Her father, James Rupe, opened Rupe's General Merchandise on the corner of "D" street and the Coast Highway in 1915. He built a second store location, which still stands next to the 7/11 parking lot in Encinitas.
