Henry 'Jim' Jordan's Obituary
Henry Jordan, known to his friends as Jim, was born in Los Angeles to Joseph and Marie Jordan. He grew up in the Leimert Park area and was the eighth of ten children. Jim loved the ocean and was an avid snorkeler and body surfer. He loved Muscle Beach in Santa Monica and pumping iron with his friends. Summers were spent on Catalina Island, a tradition that was continued almost every year after.
He attended St. Thomas grade school and Loyola and Dorsey High Schools. Soon after graduation, he joined the Army Aircorps and served in France and Germany. Upon his return from Europe , Jim enrolled at Loyola University and graduated with a business degree, although he continued his education at USC for a second degree and taught night classes at UCLA.
During his 25th year he met Edith Hill, also an Angelena, through his friend (and Edith's brother-in-law), Jerry Sumption. They married in 1950 and had 5 children.
Jim had a long career at Hughes Tool Company as Director of Industrial Relations but in 1972, he followed his dream and life-long love of golf and bought the River Island Country Club, in Porterville, CA. Heading the business was a real challenge, perfect for Jim's business acumen. He ran the golf course and Edie ran the restaurant. The family stayed for 4 years before selling up and returning to Jim's beloved South Bay, this time in Hermosa Beach where he became an Industrial Real Estate broker for Blackmore and Associates.
Upon retirement, the couple moved to Pauma Valley Country Club and enjoyed almost 30 years of golf and friends and beautiful scenery. Two years ago they relocated nearby to Temecula.
Jim is survived by his brother Paul, loving wife, Edith; daughters River, Jean and Jill, son Glen, and 3 grandchildren. He will be sorely missed.
