Mrs. Helen Maurine Christie Galindo's Obituary
Helen Maurine Christie Galindo was born in Santa Monica, CA on February 6, 1924, and passed away in Escondido, CA on March 22, 2014. She was the oldest child of the late Merwyn and Genevieve Christie. Helen came to Escondido in 1935 and attended Central Elementary School and Escondido High School.
Helen married Adan "Don" Galindo in 1942. At the time, Don was playing professional baseball but enlisted in the Navy in August 1942. Following the war, Don worked for the U.S. Postal Service while Helen was a devoted mother to their four children and served as a consummate volunteer. Don later passed away in 1985. Don helped start Little League Baseball in Escondido in the early fifties and Helen was in integral part. She was also involved in Pony League and American Legion Baseball.
Over a span of 30 years, Helen held various offices in the parent clubs at Central Elementary School, Grant Junior High School and Escondido High School. In 1967, she was recognized by the PTA for her many years of service with an honorary "Life Membership".
Helen was a founding board member of Escondido High School's first Athletic Booster Club and served as treasurer for several years. She worked on school bond issues, ran the concession stand at football and basketball games, and sold tickets at Escondido High School's athletic events.
Helen was an active, long-standing member of The Escondido Republican Club (formerly called the Hidden Valley Republican Club), a member of Escondido Republican Women Federated and an associate member of the Fairbanks Republican Women Federated.
For almost 70 years, Helen gave generously of her time to volunteer in many capacities and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Se is survived by her children, David Galindo (Barbara), Diane Snyder (Dennis), Donna Boucher (Gary) and Deron Galindo (Lori); grandchildren, Dana Perez (Rudy), David Galindo (Holly), Dulice Currier (Jonathan), Devon and Drew Galindo; as well as 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
