Beloved wife, mother, and sister, Helen Ann Bernardi passed away peacefully on January 19, 2017 in Escondido, CA at the age of 97. She is preceded by her husband of 71 years, Salvatore Bernardi, her brother, Joseph Pokoszek, and sister, Stephanie Mrowka. She is survived by two daughters, Helen (Fred) Southerton of Escondido, CA, and Elizabeth Ann Bernardi of Sunnyvale, CA.
Helen was born February 28, 1919 in New Haven, Connecticut, daughter of the late John and Anna Venczkovicz Pokoszek. She married Salvatore Dante Bernardi in 1941. While Sal taught at Notre Dame, Helen worked there as a telephone operator. They lived in Hamden, CT and the Bronx, NY before settling in Yonkers, NY until their retirement to Milpitas, CA and finally to San Diego in 1986.
Helen was a kind, gentle, and happy person who loved her chosen role of homemaker, wife, and mother. Helen was loved by all who knew her and will be truly missed.
Interment of ashes will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery beside her husband Sal.
