Harvey L. Mead Jr.'s Obituary
On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, Harvey Leroy Mead Jr. of Escondido, California, a loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 89.
Harvey was born in Missouri on March 21, 1933, to father Harvey Mead Sr. and mother Caroline Mead. He graduated from Escondido High School in 1951. After high school Harvey joined the U.S. Air Force. After being discharged from the Air Force, Harvey returned to Escondido and through their local church met Marlene Freitag whom he married in 1954. In 1955 Harvey joined Pacific Bell where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Harvey and Marlene raised two children, Lewis and Linda.
From an early age he enjoyed spending time outdoors. He participated in Boy Scouts with his son Lewis, serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Harvey enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, reading, and spending time with his family at their trailer in Kernville, California.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Mead, son-in-law Gary Kraus, and daughter-in-law Sharon Mead. He is survived by his wife Marlene Mead; children Lewis Mead and Linda Kraus; grandchildren Andrew Kraus, Holli Granados, and Joshua Mead; and great-grandchildren Caleb Granados, Alle Kraus, Ella Kraus, Lucas Granados, and Corey Fitzpatrick.
A graveside service for Harvey will be held at Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery, 2640 Glenridge Road, Escondido, California, on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 1:00 pm.
