Since meeting Gus’s youngest daughter Michelle at Santa Clara University in 1993, I was warmly welcomed into the Rico family's Escondido home by Gus and Joan. Gus, with his kind curiosity, made every conversation memorable and made me feel like part of the family. Over the years, I was fortunate to be included in many family gatherings and trips, including a poignant visit to Gus's cherished Yosemite in 2020. Sharing moments, like dipping our feet in the cool Merced River, will forever hold a special place in my heart. Gus's presence will be deeply missed. My heart with his family as they celebrate a life well lived.
