Guillermo was best known for his years as a charro. He was one of the founders of the Escondido Charros Association in 1970. He wanted to preserve the Mexican horseman skills by bringing the sport of “Charreria” to Escondido. He was recognized internationally by many in the sport and was selected to be Vice President of the Federación Mexicana de Charrería representing the United States from 1996-2000. He took immense pride in his role in the federation. From horses, parades, rodeos, mariachis, gatherings and meetings, he dedicated a large part of his life to what he loved most. He rejoiced proudly in his dedication and involvement in the federation, so much so, it became a family tradition. Guillermo and his family lived on a ranch in Escondido for decades. There they spent their lives raising horses, steers, goats, and hosting events of all sorts, but most importantly bringing the community together by their family ties to each other with their many friends and extended family.
As we say our final farewell, let us know that Guillermo didn't want us to be sad. He wanted us to know he lived his life and to cherish the memories we had with him. We will remember his humorous spirit and countless stories that he shared. The nicknames he gave us all, whether they seemed silly or not, were out of love. Let us live the rest of our lives in love, humor, and health in his memory. May the stories we share bring us comfort and laughter in this time of sorrow.
