Gladys Nielsen Check's Obituary
Gladys Nielsen Check passed away at the age of 94 on January 12, 2015 at her home in San Marcos, California. She was born in Viborg, South Dakota on September 10, 1920 to Walter and Annie Nielsen. She had five sisters and two brothers all who preceded her in death. Gladys moved to Escondido in 1942 and was a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. She worked for Convair in San Diego where she met her husband Carl Check. They were married in June of 1944. Carl and Gladys had three children: Robert, Charlotte and Gary.
Her husband Carl and son Robert preceded her in death. In addition, Gladys has seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one more on the way; along with many nieces and nephews.
Gladys was a charter member of House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Escondido and was a member of Palomar Gem and Mineral Club.
A viewing will be held at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary in Escondido on January 18th from 2 to 6pm. A celebration of life will on January 19th at 10 am at House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Escondido. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery will follow service. A luncheon will be served after services at House of Prayer Lutheran Church.
