Gilbert Vallejos' Obituary
Gilbert Vallejos, devoted husband, beloved father... our hero, lost his courageous battle with cancer on July 8, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born September 19, 1946, in St. John's, AZ, into a large family with four sisters and five brothers, he was no stranger to sheer determination, perseverance, and hard work.
As a young boy Gil played many sports including basketball and baseball which instilled a lifelong love of the games in him. He met and married his wife, Linda, while in college pursuing a teaching credential from Northern Arizona University. During the completion of his degree they welcomed their first daughter, Danielle, into the world. Upon finishing his credential he moved his young family to California to begin teaching junior high at Grant Middle School, as well as earn his Masters Degree. He remained at Grant Middle School for 34 years where he touched the lives of countless adolescents. Daughters Laura, Andrea, and JoAnna completed his family. The girls were quite adept at wrapping their daddy around their fingers. He was an attentive father and it showed... in fact, those girls thought he hung the moon. Gilbert was a devoted family man, generous in spirit and gentle of heart. He loved the Lord and was active in his church North County Church of Christ. He donated blood and platelets for many years and would be the first to offer help, speak words of enco His sense of humor, giving nature, perseverance and positivity are characteristics those who knew him strove to duplicate. A humble man, he touched many while asking few for anything in return.
While we know he is at peace with his Lord, no longer in In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Gilbert’s name to the San Diego Blood Bank, www.sandiegobloodbank.org, or to the Gastric Cancer Foundation, www.gastriccancer.org
