Gerrit John Vanderbyl's Obituary
Our Beloved Husband, Father and Opa, Gerrit John Vanderbyl went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday June 1, 2014. He was born on June 9, 1931 in Wormerveer, the Netherlands. He served in the Princess Irene Brigade in The Netherlands for 2 years. He went to Machining Trade School in Holland and immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1954. He moved to Washington State in 1966 and then moved south to Escondido in 1968 and started his own business in 1973.
Gerrit was a kind, caring compassionate Christian who always tried to help others in a quiet introspective way. He showed us how to live through his actions. He was preceded in death by his brother Theo Vanderbyl and sister Map Terwey.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Mary and 3 children Brian (Amy) of Beaumont, CA , Aubrey (Lana) of San Marcos, Debra of Escondido and 8 grandchildren. There will be a viewing between 5 and 8 PM Thursday, June 5. All are invited to Graveside service at 9:30 AM Friday June 6 to be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Escondido and immediately following Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at the United Reformed Church, 1864 No. Broadway, Escondido, to celebrate Gerrit’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvin Christian School or Westminister Seminary.
