Gail Francis Hammond Gamble
She was born on 13 September 1914 in Fresno, California. She is the daughter of Havelock Lorne Hammond, born Hemison, Chaudiere-Appalaches, Quebec, Canada, 10 Mar 1880 and Kathryn Marion Murphy Hammond, born Kelly's Cross, Queens, Prince Edward Island, Canada, 3 Apr 1880. Her siblings were Marion Ann Hammond Scoville, Frederick Shephard Hammond and Mary Hammond, and Nieces and Nephews. She was happily married to Donald Henry Gamble for 67 yrs. She is survived by her children, Donald (Kay) and Kathryn (Dennis), and her Grand Children and Great-grand Children: Douglas (Elizabeth) Sarah & Michael; Susan (Mark) Matthew & Luke; Greg (Kayra) Sienna, Scarlette, Serese; David (Dorrie) Carson & Harper and many Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews.
Gail attended kindergarten in Altadena and her classroom had a fish pond. An eventful year, she contracted Diphtheria at school and had to stay home until the Doctor, finally, took her tonsils out at home on the kitchen ironing board. She attended Wm. Wadsworth Longfellow Elementary; Marshall Junior High school, Pasadena High School and Pasadena Junior College and Pasadena Business College. She enjoyed clubs and was an active member who did many hours of community service. Our "Nan", had a cheerful happy nature, always optimistic and never heard to complain. She traveled the world and made friends wherever she went.
The world lost a wonderful woman, wife for 67 years, Mother, Nan and great-Nan, Gail Francis Hammond Gamble, Sept. 13, 1914 - Aug 20, 2015. She left us a great legacy of a faith-filled life. She was so loving, full of life, always happy, and wonderful sense of humor. She loved her family dearly. She had such a way of always looking on the bright side of everything. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful memories. We know she is in heaven now with Pop. We love you, Nan!
Gail died on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at her home in San Marcos, California. She was three weeks shy of her 101st birthday. Her funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Escondido with burial following at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside on Friday, August 28, 2015. Msgr. Joseph Finnerty, a long time friend, is officiating.
