Evelyn Gregoire's Obituary
Evie was born on August 8, 1921 in Baraboo, Wisconsin the second child and first daughter of James Doyle and Rose Stoltz Doyle. They had four children before Rose died in 1926, one son and three daughters; Lawrence, Evelyn, Margaret and Kathleen.
In 1943, Evie and three girlfriends left Iowa and the cold mid-western winters behind and boarded a train for the temperate climate of Los Angeles, Ca. She was never to live anywhere else and always spoke of the "perfect weather" of L.A. and then of Rancho Bernardo after moving there in 1984. Evie worked at Standard Oil Co. In L.A. before meeting her husband John at a young people’s mixer at St. Basils Church in Los Angeles. They were married in 1944 and had four sons, Michael, John, Stephen and Timothy. They lived in Sherman Oaks for over 40 years while raising their family. John had a long career with LAPD before retiring as a Lt. and Detective. A few years after his retirement they relocated south to Rancho Bernardo. Evie and John had active lives in RB. They were long time parishioners at San Raphael Catholic Church and members of the Rancho Bernardo Country Club where they enjoyed playing golf and bridge and meeting new friends. They traveled extensively worldwide and loved cruising. Evie was a very warm woman with a loving and compassionate personality. After John’s death she settled in at Casa de Las Companas where she lived quite happily making many friends and continuing to enjoy playing bridge.
Evie was predeceased by both of her parents and her brother Lawrence and sister Margaret and half-sister Darlene. She also lost her son Stephen Gregoire in 1972 and husband John Gregoire in 2006.
She is survived by her sister Kathleen Bruce of Cedar Rapids, IA, half-brother Robert (Marie) of Des Moines, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sons Michael (Molly) of Rancho Santa Fe, Ca, John (Tamara) of Bellingham, WA. and Timothy (Deborah) of Sherman Oaks, Ca. as well as six grandchildren: James, Stephen, Matthew Gregoire, Megan Gregoire-Galac, and Crista and Michelle Gregoire and three great-grandchildren, Zachary and Rachael Gregoire and Bella Galac.
A funeral Mass will be on Wed., May 14, 2014 at San Rafael Church, 17252 Bernardo Center Dr, Rancho Bernardo at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, CA.
