Denny and Kathy (Oleson) Nelson were in Pastors' Conformation Class at First Free in Moline. He was a wonderful Pastor and friend. I remember when he came to Moline, he didn't have a car, so my dad gave him one. Gene was very thankful for that gift. He has lived a Christ-productive life and run the good race, and now it is time to rest.
Pastor Gene met with Frank and I for our premarital counseling and then officiated at our wedding ceremony in 1980 in Yorba Linda. We thank the Lord for his positive influence on us and remember his strong faith, knowledge of the Word, and fun dry humor! We’re praying for all of the family.
I enjoyed having Pastor Gene as my pastor in YL and he baptized and dedicated some of my kids.I was also happy that he was in Green Valley where our friends, Jerry and Yvonne Simmonds attended. He was always a gentle man with strong convictions. Blessings and peace to his family.
I will miss my kind and helpful neighbor. I’ll miss our snappy repartee and his always cheerful greeting. He was a gentleman of service whether it was the small kindness of bringing my paper and trash can to my garage door or ministering to those in Spiritual need.
I enjoyed his sermons when I occasionally attended his Sunday services in the Oasis. They were personal and filled with the love of God and man.
His wit shown clearly when he led the men’s, dare I say choir, at the annual Christmas Tea. He left us in stitches, even though the jokes were old and well worn his delight in sharing them with us was contagious.
His was a life well lived.
