Doris Irene Davignon's Obituary
Doris Irene Davignon, age 99, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away in Escondido, CA on August 29, 2016 with family at her bedside.
Doris was born in North Grosvenor Dale, CT on September 17, 1916 to Oscar L. and Ellen J. Johnson. She had two older brothers, Milton and Chester Johnson, now deceased, and is survived by her sister, Harriet Nelson, of Narragansett, RI.
Doris graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School in Thompson, CT and worked as a personal assistant to the manager of a local textile mill. She married George Francis Davignon of Danielson, CT in 1943 and moved to San Diego, CA where he was stationed with the US Navy. They were married 62 years until his death in 2005. She had two sons, George Francis Davignon, Jr, a physician, now deceased, and Robert Wayne Davignon of Escondido.
In 1963 her family moved from La Mesa, CA to Escondido after they bought the Wayside Shop. She enjoyed working part time at the shop with her husband and volunteering at Palomar Memorial Hospital and House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Escondido. She spent many joyful years caring for her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
She is survived by her son Robert, his wife Barbara, five grandchildren: Aimee, Kristen, Erik, Michelle, and Robby, and by two great grandchildren, Jesse and Alexis. They will all miss her kindness, generosity, and boundless love.
A viewing will be held in the chapel at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary in Escondido from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9. A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road, Escondido, CA at 2:00 p.m.
