I miss you mom and dad.....4 years have gone by quickly.....still feel the sorrow.
As a little girl, I remembered Uncle Charles at Christmas gatherings, but my fondest memories are of Charles and Janice when they came to live with us in Hollywood. Charles would work on cars in our side yard, and, of course, my brother, Chuck, and all his friends (Leo included) would pay rapt attention to his teachings. And, I thought Janice was about the most glamourous woman I had ever seen. What memories.
With love to you all,
Louise
We have so many precious memories of Charles and Janice. They were part of so many significant events of our lives. The most important one was our marriage on May 25, 1973. They made their way to Mendocino, California with Margie and Hal to witness our ceremony on the rocky shore with nearly gale force winds blowing our little party. That night we all stayed in a small inn, it was a cold night. In the morning we learned that instead of turning on the heat in the room, Margie had turned it off, and all 4 of them were so cold, they got up and put in every bit of clothing they had and shivered through the night. It was an evening they would not soon forget. It was all part of their wonderful attitude of "going for it". They participated in family events with enthusiasm and great panache. At Joseph's western themed birthday, they got on their western get-ups and danced the night away. At my Great Gatsby themed birthday party, they dressed "to the nines", looking like the perfect flapper couple. At our Hollywood Black and White Ball, they looked so elegant, he in uniform and Janice in a beautiful gown. We cherish all the wonderful family times with them, big family Christmas parties, birthday parties, weddings of their grandchildren, dining at the Del Coronado Hotel with them to celebrate our wedding anniversary, visits with them in san Diego, and lastly the big party last June given by their daughters to celebrate Charles' 100 birthday.
We so admired them! Their love for one another and for their family, their generosity of spirit, their strong moral character as well as their sense of humor and love of life are inspirations to us. They were a gift to us, one for which we will be eternally grateful.
We will miss Uncle Charles and Aunt Janice deeply. We send our sincerest condolences to all members of their big and beautiful family.
with love from Molly and Joseph (Joe) Montgomery
